long harvest

Mela Butcher, an inspiring yogi I used to take class with in LA used to always talk about how the 'harvest' element of fall lives within us-- even if we are not farmers sowing seeds or bears collecting provisions for the winter hibernation. We have a natural tendency to work a bit harder at this time of year-- after summer's end with the sense of 'returning' to school or work, and this renewed enthusiasm inevitably makes us more productive.
I have had the sensation over the past several months of my own personal/professional 'spring.' I feel like all of the work I put in over the past ten years (!) -- is now blossoming into wonderful opportunities. It makes me feel very grateful and also have faith that even when it seems like a project/endeavor is not going well... the duration of its 'harvest' may just be a bit longer.
Or, as Robert D'Avanzo puts it in the context of going in for a meeting/audition, it's not about that one job, it's about the Body of Work.
On Sunday night I received an email notifying me that a dance-theater piece I created with LA high-school students in 2005 had been featured prominently in a book. I had no idea there was any such book in development and I certainly had no idea that the conversations I had over the course of the development would be published!! To my delight, the book looks beautiful and the coverage of the piece is generous.

In case you are interested, my piece is featured on pages 28-31.

An electronic version of the book can be viewed here.
The HeArt Project is the wonderful organization who brought me on as an Artist-in-Residence at Angelus Plaza Continuation High School.
